Summary
For over two decades I’ve been working at the convergence of technology, visual art and design, and music and sound. I apply this multi-disciplinary background to develop digital and interactive media experiences through narrative development, visual design, media production, and technical infrastructure, from concept through delivery.
I’ve directed the creation and integration of these elements to further brand messaging and narratives for clients such as Audi, Ericsson, and Brocade in contexts including exhibits, events, virtual reality, video and online.
My explorations of the creative use of technology also venture outside the commercial domain: recent examples include developing integrated media systems (video, lighting, sound, lasers, robotics, fx) with filmmaker Chris Cunningham for art installations and performances including a week-long show in London (2012), creative direction, design and programming for a video art installation at the Museum of Modern Art in New York (2013) and the design and operation of the interactive video system for the Coachella Astronaut (2014). I’ve also directed a number of short films and music videos, developed multimedia systems for live performance and produced several music releases.
Supporting these varied activities are degrees in Computer Science and Studio Art with further training in video, film and music production.
Experience
Creative Research & Development
Inhance Digital, Los Angeles – –
Reporting to the President and CEO, my primary responsibility as the lead of the Creative Research & Development effort was ensuring that the agency was able to offer the most innovative solutions to clients – through continuous research into emerging technology and ongoing investigation of new ways to use new tools and media to create interactive experiences that further the art of digital storytelling.
Roles and responsibilities included the following:
– Participation in industry events, trade shows, and conferences.
– Facilitation of regular discussion sessions connecting colleagues across multiple disciplines for conversations around new technologies, tools and techniques and the impact they may have on the services provided to clients.
– Support for “technology trends” and thought leadership presentations
– Development of systems to distribute, maintain and archive research materials in a dynamic and searchable manner, enabling collaboration such that people from across departments can be involved in both the research as well as the use of gathered resources.
– Development of Proposals, SOWs, and Discovery Sessions in collaboration with the Business Development and Creative staff.
– Continuing involvement in active projects, consulting on experience design and strategy.
– Coordination of awards submissions (e.g., Cannes Lions, for which I wrote and directed a 2m documentary video) and other PR activities.
Executive Producer
Inhance Digital, Los Angeles – –
This was a hybrid role, combining creative/experience direction with senior producer responsibilities. In addition to overseeing design and production, I would also be involved at the front end of the process, developing and conducting client discovery sessions, writing proposals, statements of work, and creative briefs and after delivery with blogs posts and other marketing assets.
– As lead producer as well as creative lead I directed the design and production of the high-profile Audi interactive experience for the 2015 LA Auto Show, from the discovery session through final deployment.
– As lead producer and creative/experience lead I directed essentially all aspects of an interactive exhibit and presentation tool for Cummins (IA, UX, UI design, copywriting, information graphic design and motion graphics) and was the main point of client contact and the primary contributor to ongoing proposals and SOWs. The success of these efforts led to three new major engagements with Cummins in the following year.
– I was the lead producer and internal creative lead for the first of Inhance’s Oculus-driven VR projects – the Shell Deepwater VR experience – and primary contact between the AOR (Imagination, London). My creative involvement also included direction of the music and sound design from composition through editorial.
– I led the creative development and production for the Ericsson Mobile World Congress 2016 interactive experience, from the discovery session and creative brief through the direction of all major creative elements: scripts and storyboards, animation and initial edits for two videos, and the high-level experience design through wireframes, UI development and implementation for a touchscreen interactive.
