Peter Johnson
I create experiences with images, sound, and technology.
My work involves bringing together multiple disciplines towards a single, integrated praxis - through years of experience in creative direction, technical direction, project management, as well as plenty of nuts-and-bolts development and production.
While all of this includes computers in some way, I believe there is more to human experience than what can happen exclusively on a video monitor. For this reason and others I've long been interested in exploring the ways in which technology can be connected and integrated with the larger environment - from process monitoring in nuclear power stations to lighting control in rock clubs.
My professional experience in digital and interactive media spans nearly two decades, with a continuing interest in developing new ways to use technology to create compelling - immersive, expressive, and informative - experiences for corporate clients, museums and educational institutions and in galleries and entertainment venues.
During this time I've worked with several major agencies including Jack Morton Worldwide, Digitas and Ignited (holding titles such as Senior Interactive Producer, Senior Designer, Interactive Media Architect, and Creative Director) for clients including Deutsche Bank, GM, NASA, Boeing, Intel, and Baxter.
My technical direction experience is based on a software engineering foundation (including consulting projects for Microsoft and Lotus), and several years in the digital media world (I was the first Liaison Software Engineer at Avid, maker of the Media Composer and Film Composer non-linear editing systems).
The focus of this site is primarily my professional interactive media work. I'm also active as a director, music producer, video artist and performing musician.
For those interested in academic qualifications, I hold degrees in Computer Science and Studio Art.
I'm currently based in Los Angeles.
