Continuing to be busy over the last year - too distracted to be posting status updates, obviously - with projects involving the convergence of art, music, and technology, from LA to London to Europe to NYC ...

Process vs. Product
This is a story from years ago. It came up as I was catching up with a screenwriter/producer friend over coffee in Santa Monica, a week or so ago. As it involves an important concept to me - one that is relevant to just about everything I do - I thought I'd relate it again:

I just found out about this. Next to videos for Trent Reznor, Gary Numan, and IAMX, my video for The Present Moment's "Intrigue" appeared in the ID:UD 10 Best Videos of 2011:

Latest revision of the sensor rig, version 1.x
FSRs and voltage dividersThe last time we had the sensor rig out for a performance/demo, the only failure was the sensor mounts on the heel and toe.
Now the FSRs (force-sensing resistors) are built into footbeds in these cool Capezio dance shoes - full dynamic range and solid data stream ('cause they stay in place, right under the points where the dancer meets the floor).
Somehow we managed to mangle one of the sensors on the last go-around; replacements are on the way and then we'll be good to finalize the instruments and programs for the next show.

My Chemical Romance design contest

The My Chemical Romance design contest is live at MASScanvas. The goal is to create an original T-shirt design that answers My Chemical Romance's theme of "Good vs. Evil."
Singer (and comic book author) Gerard Way issues the challenge:
Alchemy
![]()
"Applied digital alchemy for interactive experiences ..." reads the tag under peterjohnson.net. Why the choice of the word, "alchemy?"
A standard definition of "alchemy" is any magical power or process of transmuting a common substance, usually of little worth, into something of great value.
Alchemy, as the term is used here, refers to taking raw, base materials such as computer hardware, software components and media assets and combining, processing and manipulating them to create a compelling experiential product. Combining visual art, sound and technology is something more than a simple nuts-and-bolts task; innovative interactive media is modern-day wizardry, manifesting Arthur C. Clarke's dictum, "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic."
